Cunningham’s RainForest Reimagined

Celebrating the creative influence and partnerships of choreographer Merce Cunningham, last night we welcomed Rambert Dance Company into the Barbican Art Gallery to perform one of Cunningham’s most iconic performances, RainForest.

Instantly recognizable by its set design, a stage filled with the beautiful reflective helium pillows designed by Andy Warhol, RainForest was reimagined for the Gallery stage, right at the heart of The Bride and the Bachelors exhibition.

Performed to an electronic score by David Tudor, for one night only audiences were treated to an up-close performance of Cunningham’s seminal work, as the Gallery’s levels allowed a view as dynamic as the choreography itself…
