Bringing our Electronic Music Experience series to a riotous close, Elizabeth Bernholz aka Gazelle Twin finishes her UNFLESH tour – and says farewell to the infamous blue hoody – with a very special live performance in our Cinema, Fleshed Out.
In preparation, Gazelle Twin shares a playlist of tracks that inspired and fuelled the creation of this powerful album…
‘UNFLESH started out a documentary album about the body – its autonomous internal workings, the strange things the mind does by instinct or nature or illness. Over time, elements of it grew into a deeply personal account of my own physical and existential experiences whilst growing up and as lyrics emerged. So did a very clear and very aggressive projection of feeling stifled by anxiety, consumerism, socio-political and cultural conformities – all set within institutions that I feel reinforce these ideas such as schools, shopping centres, housing estates etc.
Here’s some of music I was listening to before and during the time of writing UNFLESH. The choices reflect a feeling of doom and anxiety, the uncanny, and instincts of retaliation, ecstasy and indulgence of the body.’
