We’ll be making some changes to our foyers very soon, as RIBA Stirling Prize-winning practice Allford Hall Monaghan Morris returns to the Barbican to design a new, more accessible shop ten years after their overhaul of our public spaces.
This new shop will be located at the entrance to the foyers off Silk Street and will provide an opportunity to showcase new and emerging design talent through its specially commissioned range of products, many of them taking inspiration from the Barbican Estate itself.
The increased space will give us the chance to reach out to local up-and-coming creatives, offering pop-up opportunities and workshops. The appearance of the new shop picks up on the language of the earlier foyers projects, using dark metal cladding against the textured concrete, while the vitrines are clad in a lighter metallic finish.
To coincide with the opening of the new shop, we are also looking to collaborate with new designers and makers to display their products – creatives local to the Barbican are particularly welcome.
With the opening of the new shop in the autumn, we’ll be revealing six new commissioned ranges – stay tuned as we profile these designers and their work on the blog and on our Instagram over the coming weeks.
Become a Barbican Maker and see your designs on display in our shop. Applications close Wednesday 31 August 2016.
