Barbican Meets: SANAA’s Ryue Nishizawa

How do you create the perfect house for an individual?

We caught up with Japanese architect Ryue Nishizawa (SANAA) to discuss one of the best-known projects of SANAA, the Moriyama House, now recreated to 1:1 scale inside our Gallery as part of The Japanese House exhibition, allowing you to experience life in this unique and endlessly intriguing building. From designing for an individual’s way of life – and treasured possessions – to balancing the experience of city life with the necessity for nature, we learn more about the importance of personality in Japanese domestic architecture.

The Japanese House: Architecture and Life After 1945 takes place until 25 June
